Construction work has fully begun on the next stage of the £3bn A9 dualling programme between Inverness and Perth.

Six miles (10km) of the trunk road from Moy to Tomatin, south of Inverness, is being upgraded under a £185m contract.

The Scottish government has faced criticism over its handling of the overall project following delay which have resulting in the completion date being moved back by a decade to 2035.

Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop visited the new construction site to see the progress being made – including the start of work to realign the Dalmagarry burn.
